Our client is the largest organic honey exporter in East Africa and the second largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, established in 2017 with a mission to develop the honey sector in Tanzania through private sector intervention. They collaborate with traditional beekeepers to aggregate honey and add value through certification and access to export markets. Their innovative approach aims to transform the honey industry by providing traditional beekeepers with access to higher-value markets and creating high-quality honey for export.


Role Overview

The MD will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations, sales, and profitability of our client. This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader who can drive growth, enhance operational efficiency, and expand our client’s market presence while maintaining their social impact mission. The ideal candidate will have a background in business management or consulting, with a passion for social impact and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management role, preferably in the food/agriculture industry or a social impact organization.
  • Background in agriculture and/or business, with a strong understanding of the African market.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning and execution, operations management, and sales.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in managing budgets and financial performance.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Passion for social impact and sustainability, with a commitment to our client’s mission and values.

Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive the growth and profitability of the company.
  • Ensure alignment of company activities with the mission and vision of our client.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, partners, and governmental bodies.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) in line with international standards (FSSC 22000).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production and processing efficiency.

Sales and Marketing:

  • Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies to expand market reach and increase revenue.
  • Maintain and grow the company's strong network of B2B sales contacts.
  • Oversee the development of new markets and product lines to diversify income streams.

Financial Management:

  • Manage the company's financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management and working capital optimization.
  • Work with the finance team to secure funding and manage grants and service income streams.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the management team and staff.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment that aligns with the company’s values.
  • Ensure effective talent acquisition and retention strategies to build a competent team.

Impact and Sustainability:

  • Drive the company’s social impact initiatives, ensuring that operations benefit local beekeepers and the community.
  • Maintain and enhance the company’s certifications and compliance with international standards (EU Organic, USDA NOP, B-Corp, etc.).
  • Promote sustainable practices within the company and the broader honey industry.
