This is a remote position with compensation in US dollars as a contractor.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Software Engineer to join a long-term project supporting large and complex enterprise systems. You will work in a small, highly technical team where independence, problem-solving, and clear communication are key.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance core applications written in Assembler.

• Collaborate with engineers to ensure stability and performance of mission-critical systems.

• Debug and troubleshoot complex applications running on z/OS, TSO, and Unix System Services.

• Work with legacy codebases and contribute to modernization initiatives.

• Provide clear communication and timely status updates during incidents or problem resolution.

Requirements

• Assembler: 7+ years of recent, hands-on experience (critical requirement).

• Complementary language: At least 3 - 4 years of experience in COBOL or C/C++.

• Mainframe expertise: 5+ years working on z/OS, with proficiency in JCL.

• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Good communication in English (both written and spoken).

Nice to Have

• Experience with both C/C++ and COBOL.

• Background in enterprise environments (banking, government, healthcare, logistics, etc.).

• Exposure to modernization strategies for legacy systems.

• Personal projects showcasing technological prowess and self-direction.

• Desire to work in a multidisciplinary, cross-functional team.
