About the job Remote | US Employment Law & Workplace Policy Counsel — $220–$245/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for US-qualified Labor & Employment lawyers based in the United States or United Kingdom with experience advising on corporate workplace policies, employment compliance, investigations, and employee-relations matters.
This role supports a research initiative focused on creating, reviewing, and evaluating realistic employment-law and workplace-policy scenarios. Selected professionals will apply practical legal judgment across employee handbooks, HR policies, workplace investigations, wage and hour compliance, disciplinary matters, and multi-jurisdictional employment issues.
Key Responsibilities
Employment Law Scenario Development
- Create realistic legal scenarios grounded in US Labor & Employment practice
- Develop matters involving workplace policies, employee relations, investigations, discipline, and termination
- Ensure scenarios reflect practical corporate advisory work and current professional standards
- Define relevant facts, legal issues, risks, and expected analytical considerations
Workplace Policy Review
- Review employee handbooks, HR policies, and workplace procedures for legal accuracy and clarity
- Evaluate policies concerning discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, leave, and employee conduct
- Assess whether proposed policies appropriately address compliance, operational risk, and employee-relations concerns
- Identify ambiguity, inconsistency, or omissions within workplace-policy materials
Legal Analysis & Evaluation
- Review and evaluate proposed responses to complex employment-law questions
- Assess legal reasoning, issue identification, practical judgment, and policy recommendations
- Identify unsupported conclusions, missed risks, and incomplete analyses
- Provide clear written feedback grounded in US employment law and corporate advisory practice
Multi-Jurisdictional & Corporate Advisory Support
- Analyse employment-law matters involving multiple US jurisdictions
- Review workplace policies used by multinational employers
- Consider the interaction between federal, state, and local requirements
- Apply practical judgment to matters involving wage and hour compliance, investigations, discipline, and termination
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- Active qualification to practise law in the United States
- Professional experience within a Labor & Employment or Employment Law practice group
- Current residence in the United States or United Kingdom
- The right to work in the country where they are based
- Experience advising employers on corporate workplace policies and HR compliance
- Strong knowledge of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodation, and employee-relations matters
- Experience reviewing employee handbooks, conducting workplace investigations, or advising on disciplinary actions
- Excellent written communication and the ability to explain nuanced legal issues clearly
Educational Background
- A Juris Doctor or equivalent US legal qualification is required
- Admission to at least one US state bar is required
- Additional study or professional training in employment law, labour law, workplace investigations, or HR compliance may be valuable
- Experience within a recognised law firm, in-house legal department, or specialist employment-law practice is highly relevant
Nice to Have
- Experience advising multinational companies on US employment-law matters
- Background in wage and hour compliance, employee classification, or compensation policies
- Experience handling discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or accommodation matters
- Familiarity with workplace investigations and internal reporting procedures
- Experience advising on terminations, restructuring, discipline, and employee relations
- Knowledge of multi-state employment compliance and jurisdiction-specific policy requirements
- Previous involvement in legal research, structured legal evaluation, policy review, or AI-related legal projects
