Remote | Clinical Research & Medical Affairs Consultant — Up to $190/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced clinical research, medical affairs, life sciences, and healthcare professionals with deep therapeutic-area expertise and strong understanding of real-world clinical practice, treatment pathways, and patient experience.

This role focuses on reviewing physician and patient research surveys for clinical accuracy and therapeutic relevance. Selected experts will assess survey questions, terminology, treatment pathways, clinical scenarios, and response options to ensure they accurately reflect current practice and meaningful patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Survey Review

• Review physician and patient research surveys for clinical and therapeutic-area accuracy
• Assess whether questions appropriately reflect real-world clinical practice
• Identify inaccurate, outdated, ambiguous, or incomplete clinical content
• Evaluate whether response options capture realistic clinical decisions and patient experiences
• Provide clear recommendations for improving survey quality

Therapeutic Area Evaluation

• Apply deep disease-area expertise when reviewing research materials
• Evaluate terminology, disease characteristics, treatment pathways, and therapeutic options
• Assess whether clinical scenarios reflect current standards of care
• Identify missing considerations that could affect survey validity
• Review content from the perspective of healthcare professionals and patients

Treatment Pathways & Clinical Decision-Making

• Evaluate how surveys represent diagnosis, treatment selection, sequencing, and ongoing management
• Assess whether therapeutic choices reflect realistic clinical decision-making
• Identify oversimplified or clinically implausible pathways
• Review treatment options for relevance to the intended disease population
• Evaluate whether survey structures capture meaningful differences in physician behaviour

Patient Experience

• Review survey content relating to symptoms, treatment burden, outcomes, and patient experience
• Assess whether questions and response options adequately reflect real-world patient perspectives
• Identify missing or misleading patient-experience considerations
• Evaluate terminology for clarity and clinical appropriateness
• Support development of more realistic patient research instruments

Oncology & Urologic Oncology

• Review materials involving prostate cancer
• Assess staging, treatment sequencing, systemic therapies, and evolving standards of care
• Evaluate whether clinical scenarios reflect realistic oncology practice
• Identify gaps or outdated assumptions within survey content
• Apply relevant therapeutic-area expertise to physician and patient questions

Gastroenterology & IBD

• Review research involving ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease
• Assess disease severity, remission, biologics, targeted therapies, and treatment pathways
• Evaluate whether survey content reflects current clinical management
• Identify missing treatment or disease-state considerations
• Review physician and patient response options for clinical realism

Neurology

• Evaluate surveys involving migraine
• Review acute and preventive treatment approaches
• Assess distinctions between chronic and episodic disease
• Evaluate symptom and patient-experience questions
• Identify incomplete or clinically inaccurate treatment assumptions

Pulmonology & Respiratory Medicine

• Review survey content involving COPD
• Assess diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management
• Evaluate scenarios involving pulmonologists and primary care physicians
• Identify inaccuracies or missing clinical considerations
• Apply practical knowledge of respiratory disease management

Survey Design & Research Quality

• Collaborate with survey-methodology professionals where appropriate
• Evaluate both clinical content and survey design when supported by your experience
• Assess whether question wording produces interpretable and useful responses
• Identify issues that could introduce ambiguity or distort findings
• Contribute expertise from physician or patient market research where applicable

Evidence-Based Recommendations

• Provide clear written recommendations for improving survey content
• Explain why specific questions or response options may be clinically inaccurate or incomplete
• Support recommendations with therapeutic-area knowledge and real-world practice considerations
• Distinguish substantive clinical issues from minor wording preferences
• Communicate findings clearly to research and project teams

Ideal Profile

• 3+ years of professional experience within a relevant therapeutic or clinical area
• Deep understanding of disease management, treatment landscapes, and real-world clinical decision-making
• Relevant professional backgrounds may include:
  • Medical affairs
  • Clinical research
  • Medical writing
  • Life sciences or healthcare consulting
  • Pharmaceutical research
  • Healthcare insights or market research
  • Scientific communications
  • Clinical practice
• Strong ability to identify clinically inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated survey content
• Experience with physician or patient market research is advantageous but not required
• Experience designing or fielding pharmaceutical market research surveys is particularly valuable
• Strong analytical judgement and written communication skills
• An MD or other clinical degree is welcome but not required
• Relevant expertise in oncology, gastroenterology/IBD, neurology, pulmonology, or respiratory medicine is particularly valuable

Engagement Details

• Part-time independent contractor engagement
• Fully remote
• Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
• Compensation: Up to $190/hour
• Work focuses on therapeutic-area expertise, clinical survey review, physician and patient research, and structured quality evaluation
• Opportunities may span multiple disease areas and may lead to continued project engagements
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
• Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
