About the job Remote | Healthcare Market Research & Survey Methodology Consultant — Up to $130/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced healthcare market research, pharmaceutical insights, and survey methodology professionals with hands-on experience designing and evaluating physician, patient, and healthcare research surveys.
This role focuses on developing and reviewing rigorous healthcare survey instruments used in pharmaceutical and life-sciences research. Selected professionals will translate research objectives into effective questionnaires, evaluate survey methodology and respondent experience, and collaborate with therapeutic-area experts to ensure instruments produce reliable and decision-useful data.
Key Responsibilities
Healthcare Survey Design
- Design, review, and refine physician and patient research surveys
- Translate research objectives into clear, methodologically sound questionnaires
- Develop survey structures appropriate for healthcare and pharmaceutical research
- Evaluate whether instruments effectively address intended research questions
- Apply established healthcare market-research conventions throughout the survey-development process
Questionnaire Methodology
- Review question wording, response scales, survey flow, and overall instrument structure
- Identify leading, ambiguous, overly technical, or otherwise problematic questions
- Evaluate ordering effects and potential sources of measurement bias
- Assess recall requirements and whether questions place unreasonable demands on respondents
- Recommend methodological improvements that strengthen data quality and interpretability
Screening & Survey Logic
- Review screeners and eligibility criteria for physician, patient, and HCP research
- Evaluate branching and skip logic
- Assess speciality screening and respondent qualification criteria
- Review patient-volume and treatment-behaviour qualification requirements where relevant
- Identify inconsistencies or logic issues that may affect survey completion or sample quality
Physician & HCP Research
- Ensure questionnaires are appropriately constructed for physicians, specialists, primary care professionals, and other healthcare professionals
- Evaluate research involving prescribing behaviour, treatment pathways, and clinical decision-making
- Assess whether terminology and response options are appropriate for professional audiences
- Review patient-volume qualification and speciality criteria
- Identify questions that may produce unclear or misleading responses
Patient Research
- Review surveys covering diagnosis history, symptoms, treatment experience, adherence, and patient journeys
- Assess questions involving quality of life and treatment burden
- Evaluate whether wording and response options are understandable and appropriate for patient audiences
- Review respondent burden and survey length
- Identify methodological issues that may affect the reliability of patient-reported information
Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences Insights
- Apply knowledge of pharmaceutical primary market research and commercial insights
- Review surveys designed to inform treatment, market, patient, or healthcare strategy
- Incorporate relevant life-sciences research practices into questionnaire design
- Evaluate whether survey outputs will generate meaningful and actionable information
- Support research involving medical affairs, commercial insights, and related healthcare functions
Therapeutic-Area Collaboration
- Collaborate with clinical and therapeutic-area experts to ensure survey content is appropriately framed
- Integrate methodological and clinical feedback into revised instruments
- Independently assess both methodology and therapeutic content where professional expertise supports doing so
- Identify clinical assumptions requiring specialist review
- Ensure research questions remain methodologically rigorous while reflecting real-world healthcare contexts
Therapeutic-Area Research

Contribute to surveys involving areas such as:
- Oncology, particularly prostate cancer
- Gastroenterology, particularly ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease
- Neurology, particularly migraine and headache disorders
- Pulmonology and respiratory medicine, particularly COPD
- Additional pharmaceutical therapeutic-area expertise is valuable for future research initiatives
Research Quality & Recommendations
- Assess whether surveys will generate reliable, interpretable, and decision-useful data
- Identify weaknesses in questionnaire construction or research methodology
- Provide precise written explanations of methodological concerns
- Recommend practical revisions to improve survey quality
- Distinguish substantive research issues from minor stylistic preferences
Ideal Profile
- 3+ years of professional experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life-sciences, or medically focused research
- Hands-on experience designing, programming, fielding, reviewing, or advising on surveys involving physicians, patients, HCPs, or other healthcare stakeholders
- Strong knowledge of questionnaire design and survey methodology

- Familiarity with pharmaceutical market research, commercial insights, or medical affairs research
- Therapeutic-area expertise in oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, or respiratory medicine is particularly valuable
- Experience with platforms such as Qualtrics, Decipher/Forsta, Alchemer, SurveyMonkey, or comparable survey tools is helpful but not required
- Excellent written reasoning and ability to provide precise methodological feedback
- Professionals capable of evaluating both survey methodology and therapeutic-area content are particularly valuable, although deep survey-methodology expertise alone is highly relevant
