Remote | Senior Software Engineer — $30–$100/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Senior Software Engineers with strong expertise in backend development, debugging, feature implementation, automated testing, performance optimisation, and scalable systems to contribute to an advanced AI training and software-engineering evaluation project.

Selected professionals will create realistic and technically challenging coding tasks involving feature development and bug fixing, then implement deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions while rejecting incorrect implementations. The work is particularly suited to backend engineers with strong code-review instincts and experience across complex production systems. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Coding Task Development

• Design realistic software-engineering tasks involving feature implementation and bug fixes
• Create challenging scenarios representative of production backend development
• Define clear technical requirements, constraints, and expected behaviour
• Ensure tasks allow multiple reasonable valid implementation approaches
• Apply strong engineering judgement when designing evaluation scenarios

Backend Engineering & Feature Implementation

• Apply expertise across Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or comparable languages
• Develop and evaluate scalable backend services and APIs
• Implement robust features within existing or unfamiliar codebases
• Apply sound algorithms, data structures, and software-engineering principles
• Maintain strong standards for performance, reliability, and maintainability

Debugging & Performance Optimisation

• Analyse complex defects and identify underlying root causes
• Resolve software bugs across varied systems and codebases
• Investigate performance bottlenecks and inefficient implementation patterns
• Refactor existing code to improve clarity, reliability, and efficiency
• Validate changes through appropriate automated testing and technical review

Deterministic Verification & Code Quality

• Build deterministic verifiers for coding tasks and submitted solutions
• Ensure verification accepts reasonable correct approaches while rejecting invalid outputs
• Develop test cases covering expected behaviour, edge cases, and failure conditions
• Review code for technical correctness, quality, and maintainability
• Apply strong code-review instincts across generated and reference solutions

Security & Technical Evaluation

• Apply secure-coding principles to software-engineering tasks where relevant
• Evaluate vulnerabilities, unsafe implementation patterns, and security weaknesses
• Draw on application-security, SecOps, penetration-testing, or vulnerability-assessment experience where applicable
• Consider OWASP, CWE, and related security concepts during technical review
• Document technical reasoning and evaluation decisions clearly

Ideal Profile

• Strong professional experience in backend software engineering
• Expertise in Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or a comparable language
• Proven track record building scalable services and APIs
• Strong debugging, automated-testing, and performance-optimisation skills
• Experience implementing complex features in production codebases
• Strong code-review judgement and attention to software quality
• Experience refactoring large or mature codebases
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and core computer-science concepts
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Excellent technical communication skills
• Cybersecurity or SecOps experience is highly valuable
• Experience with secure coding, application security, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, OWASP, or CWE is advantageous
• Ability to work independently and apply professional judgement without outside assistance
• No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

• Independent contractor engagement

• Expected commitment: approximately 15 hours per week
