About the job Remote | Quantitative Finance & Risk Specialist — Up to $145/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for quantitative finance professionals experienced in derivatives pricing, financial modeling, statistical analysis, market risk, Python-based analysis, and structured evaluation of complex quantitative work.
This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on evaluating advanced quantitative finance outputs across markets, derivatives, investment analysis, and risk management. Selected professionals will compare alternative solutions to challenging finance problems, assess methodological accuracy, identify weaknesses in quantitative reasoning, and provide clear written feedback grounded in real-world financial practice.
Key Responsibilities
Quantitative Finance Evaluation
- Compare alternative responses to the same quantitative finance problem
- Determine which response demonstrates stronger accuracy, methodology, and financial reasoning
- Assess whether conclusions are supported by appropriate models, calculations, assumptions, and evidence
- Identify mathematical errors, unsupported claims, flawed assumptions, and incomplete analyses
Derivatives, Markets & Risk Review
- Evaluate problems involving derivatives pricing, portfolio risk, market behaviour, and financial instruments
- Review the application of quantitative models, probability, statistics, and financial theory
- Assess assumptions relating to volatility, correlations, distributions, pricing inputs, and market conditions
- Identify methodological weaknesses that may affect valuation, forecasting, or risk conclusions
Python & Statistical Analysis
- Review Python-based financial analyses using tools such as NumPy and pandas
- Assess data preparation, calculations, simulations, model implementation, and output interpretation
- Evaluate whether analytical methods are reproducible, efficient, and appropriate for the financial question
- Identify coding, data-handling, or numerical issues that may affect the validity of results
Written Evaluation & Calibration
- Provide clear written explanations supporting each evaluation decision
- Explain why one output performs more effectively based on correctness, methodological soundness, and quantitative rigor
- Complete onboarding and specialty calibration activities
- Incorporate structured reviewer feedback and apply evaluation standards consistently
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- At least 2 years of professional experience in quantitative finance
- Experience in quantitative trading, hedge funds, derivatives, market risk, equity research, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of quantitative modeling, statistical analysis, financial markets, and risk measurement
- Practical proficiency in Python, including NumPy, pandas, or comparable analytical libraries
- Ability to evaluate complex financial calculations and identify subtle methodological errors
- Excellent written communication and strong attention to detail
- Availability to contribute approximately 10–20 hours per week
Educational Background
- An advanced degree in financial engineering, mathematics, statistics, physics, economics, computer science, or a related quantitative field is highly relevant
- Equivalent professional experience in quantitative finance may also be considered
- Graduate-level training in derivatives, econometrics, probability, stochastic processes, or computational finance may be especially valuable
- Professional credentials such as CFA, FRM, CQF, or comparable qualifications may be helpful
Nice to Have
- Experience with options, futures, swaps, fixed income, structured products, or other derivatives
- Familiarity with pricing models, Monte Carlo simulation, time-series analysis, or stochastic modeling
- Experience evaluating portfolio risk, stress testing, scenario analysis, or market exposure
- Knowledge of quantitative research workflows and financial data validation
- Previous involvement in technical review, model validation, benchmarking, or quality-assurance projects
- Experience providing written feedback on financial models, research, or analytical work
