Job Openings Remote | Inpatient Coder (CCS) — $50–$70/hour

About the job Remote | Inpatient Coder (CCS) — $50–$70/hour

We are sharing a specialised remote consulting opportunity for experienced US-based Inpatient Medical Coders with expertise in ICD-10 coding, CPT/HCPCS classification systems, clinical documentation review, and healthcare coding quality assurance to contribute their professional knowledge to advanced AI training and evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will review inpatient medical records, assess diagnostic and procedural coding accuracy, evaluate AI-generated clinical documentation, and identify inconsistencies across medical coding workflows. The work combines practical healthcare coding expertise with clinical data interpretation, documentation analysis, coding guideline application, and structured quality assessment to help improve the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of AI systems operating across clinical coding and medical record processing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Inpatient Medical Record Review & Coding Analysis

  • Review and analyse inpatient medical records to ensure accurate diagnosis and procedure coding in accordance with applicable guidelines
  • Evaluate clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and appropriate coding representation
  • Identify relevant diagnoses, procedures, and clinical information within complex inpatient medical records
  • Apply professional coding expertise to interpret medical terminology, clinical findings, and documented patient encounters
  • Assess coding decisions against established classification standards and healthcare documentation practices

ICD-10 & CPT/HCPCS Classification

  • Apply ICD-10 coding principles to diagnostic information documented in patient medical records
  • Review procedural information and evaluate the appropriate application of CPT and HCPCS coding systems where relevant
  • Analyse coding scenarios requiring accurate interpretation of clinical documentation and classification guidelines
  • Identify inconsistencies between documented clinical information and assigned diagnosis or procedure codes
  • Use current official coding references and applicable Evaluation and Management (E&M) guidelines to support accurate coding assessments

Clinical Documentation Integrity & Data Validation

  • Review clinical documentation for completeness, clarity, and alignment with established coding requirements
  • Identify documentation discrepancies, missing information, and coding inconsistencies affecting medical record accuracy
  • Evaluate the relationship between documented diagnoses, procedures, and corresponding classification codes
  • Assess the integrity of medical record abstraction and the accurate capture of relevant clinical information
  • Provide structured recommendations for resolving coding discrepancies and improving documentation quality

AI Training & Clinical Coding Evaluation

  • Review and validate AI-generated clinical notes, patient summaries, diagnostic information, and procedural documentation
  • Compare AI-generated medical coding outputs with applicable ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines
  • Identify inaccurate code assignments, incomplete clinical interpretations, and inconsistencies in AI-generated medical information
  • Apply professional coding judgement to assess the correctness and practical relevance of AI-generated clinical content
  • Provide detailed written feedback explaining coding inaccuracies, classification decisions, and opportunities for improved model performance

Medical Coding Quality Assurance & Technical Collaboration

  • Evaluate coding outputs for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with current healthcare coding standards
  • Review and reconcile discrepancies in diagnosis and procedure coding to support reliable clinical data capture
  • Enter and assess AI-generated patient information within designated computerised inpatient and outpatient medical record systems
  • Produce clear coding explanations, documentation assessments, and structured technical feedback
  • Support continuous improvement of medical coding accuracy, clinical data integrity, and specialised AI evaluation deliverables

Ideal Profile

  • Active professional coding certification such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), RHIA, RHIT, or another relevant AHIMA or AAPC credential
  • Substantial professional experience in medical coding, particularly inpatient record review and clinical documentation assessment
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10 coding principles and their application to clinical documentation
  • Practical knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding systems and relevant classification requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to review complex medical records and accurately interpret diagnostic and procedural information
  • Experience identifying coding discrepancies, documentation inconsistencies, and opportunities for improved data accuracy
  • Familiarity with official ICD-10 and CPT coding references, including current code sets and applicable E&M guidelines
  • Strong understanding of healthcare coding compliance, medical record abstraction, and documentation integrity
  • Experience working with electronic health records, computerised medical record databases, or healthcare coding software
  • Ability to apply coding guidelines consistently across complex clinical documentation and classification scenarios
  • Excellent analytical reasoning, clinical interpretation, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical coding and documentation quality
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex coding decisions and provide constructive feedback
  • Current professional involvement in medical coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a closely related documentation role
  • Availability to contribute at least 10 hours per week
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a remote, technology-supported project environment
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted medical coding, clinical data evaluation, or healthcare technology initiatives is advantageous but not required
