About the job Remote | Indian Domestic Tax Research Specialist — $50–$75/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for tax professionals with deep expertise in Indian domestic taxation, statutory interpretation, technical tax research, and review of complex tax analyses.
This short-term role focuses on evaluating and improving AI-generated tax research relating exclusively to Indian domestic tax law. Selected professionals will assess technical conclusions, validate statutory references and supporting authorities, refine grading rubrics, and update reference answers to reflect current legislation and established tax practice.
Key Responsibilities
Indian Tax Research Review
- Review Indian domestic tax research questions and model-generated answers
- Evaluate technical analyses for accuracy, completeness, and professional quality
- Identify incorrect interpretations, unsupported conclusions, and missing tax considerations
- Assess whether responses apply Indian domestic tax principles appropriately to the stated facts
Statutory & Authority Validation
- Review references to the Income-tax Act, GST legislation, CBDT circulars, and judicial precedents
- Assess the relevance, authority, and accuracy of supporting legal and tax sources
- Verify that conclusions follow applicable statutory provisions and administrative guidance
- Identify outdated, incomplete, or incorrectly applied authorities
Reference Answer & Rubric Development
- Review and improve reference answers for complex Indian tax questions
- Refine grading rubrics for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and clarity
- Define the essential elements required for a high-quality tax analysis
- Rewrite answers and scoring criteria where correction or clarification is required
- Ensure rubrics distinguish between minor omissions and material technical errors
Legislative & Technical Updates
- Update analyses to reflect recent legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments
- Review effective dates, transitional provisions, exemptions, deductions, and procedural requirements
- Assess the treatment of complex domestic tax scenarios involving individuals and businesses
- Provide clear written explanations supporting recommended revisions
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in Indian taxation
- Deep expertise in Indian domestic tax law
- Experience interpreting the Income-tax Act, GST legislation, CBDT circulars, and judicial precedents
- Background preparing tax opinions, litigation-support materials, advisory memoranda, or technical research
- Strong understanding of tax research methodology and statutory interpretation
- Excellent analytical judgment, written communication, and attention to detail
- Availability to contribute approximately 10–20 hours per week
Educational Background
- Chartered Accountant, Advocate, Cost Accountant, or an equivalent tax qualification is highly relevant
- A degree in taxation, accounting, finance, law, economics, or a related discipline may be helpful
- Advanced professional training in Indian direct or indirect taxation may strengthen an application
- Equivalent senior-level experience in tax advisory, litigation, or technical tax research may also be considered
Nice to Have
- Expertise in Indian Corporate Tax
- Strong knowledge of Direct Tax matters
- Experience with Goods and Services Tax
- Familiarity with TDS and TCS requirements
- Background in tax litigation, assessments, or appeals
- Experience advising on complex domestic tax matters
- Familiarity with structured evaluation rubrics, reference-answer development, or AI-generated tax research
- Experience reviewing multi-step tax analyses involving statutory and judicial interpretation
