Job Openings Remote | Editorial & Media Evaluation Consultant — $35–$40/hour

About the job Remote | Editorial & Media Evaluation Consultant — $35–$40/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced editors, journalists, reporters, and film or video editors to evaluate realistic professional work products within their own field.

This role focuses on reviewing completed AI-generated editorial and media work rather than creating or redoing the underlying deliverables. Selected professionals will assess whether assignments reflect authentic industry practice, whether content meets professional editorial standards, and whether existing grading and quality scores are justified.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial & Media Work Product Review

  • Review completed work products representing realistic editorial, journalism, or video-editing assignments
  • Examine task instructions, supporting files, completed outputs, and evaluation results
  • Determine whether deliverables reflect authentic professional workflows
  • Identify substantive factual, editorial, sourcing, technical, or production issues
  • Assess whether finished work would be suitable for professional publication, client delivery, or broadcast use

Task Realism Assessment

  • Evaluate whether assignments accurately represent work performed in your profession
  • Assess whether task descriptions, constraints, and expected deliverables are realistic
  • Distinguish authentic professional scenarios from borderline or contrived tasks
  • Consider normal editorial, reporting, production, and approval processes
  • Provide concise explanations supporting each judgement

Editorial Accuracy & Standards

  • Review copy for factual accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to professional standards
  • Assess whether content appropriately follows editorial or house-style requirements
  • Identify sourcing, attribution, legal, or factual concerns
  • Evaluate whether editorial decisions would withstand professional review
  • Flag issues that could prevent content from being published or approved

Journalism & Reporting Review

  • Assess reporting tasks for realistic sourcing and editorial practice
  • Evaluate whether claims are adequately supported
  • Identify questionable sourcing, missing context, or factual inconsistencies
  • Review whether stories meet professional standards for accuracy and credibility
  • Apply practical judgement developed through producing and filing original reporting

Film & Video Editing Review

  • Evaluate completed video-editing work against realistic professional expectations
  • Assess whether editing decisions support the intended narrative and deliverable
  • Review technical and production requirements where relevant
  • Identify issues that could prevent delivery to a client or broadcast specification
  • Apply professional judgement from hands-on timeline-based editing experience

Grading & Evaluation Review

  • Review existing yes/no grading decisions against completed work
  • Assess issues such as formatting, fabricated information, requirement compliance, terminology, and professional accuracy
  • Identify grading decisions that are unsupported by the underlying work
  • Explain clearly where and why you agree or disagree with an evaluation
  • Apply consistent professional standards across reviewed assignments

Quality & Score Assessment

  • Independently assess the overall quality of each completed work product
  • Determine whether an experienced practitioner could realistically use, publish, approve, or deliver the output
  • Assign an appropriate quality band based on professional standards
  • Compare your assessment with the reported evaluation score
  • Identify cases where scoring does not accurately reflect work-product quality

Structured Written Feedback

  • Provide short, clear rationales for individual review decisions
  • Explain factual, editorial, sourcing, or production concerns precisely
  • Distinguish material problems from minor stylistic issues
  • Support judgements with relevant professional experience
  • Maintain consistency and attention to detail throughout each review

Ideal Profile

Applicants should have substantial hands-on experience in one of the following professional areas:

Editorial

  • 4+ years of professional editing experience
  • Experience editing other people's copy against an established house style
  • Responsibility for content that ultimately proceeded to publication
  • Strong ability to identify factual, structural, sourcing, and editorial issues

Journalism & Reporting

  • Experience researching, reporting, and filing your own stories

  • History of delivering finished work to clients or against broadcast specifications
  • Strong understanding of professional post-production and quality requirements

Additional Requirements

  • Strong hands-on delivery experience within your profession
  • Experience reviewing, challenging, or approving other professionals' work is particularly valuable
  • Near-native business English
  • Ability to provide concise written explanations for professional judgements
  • Comfortable reviewing spreadsheets, PDFs, and related professional files
  • Able to check numerical information and internal consistency where relevant
  • Candidates whose experience consists primarily of writing their own marketing content without an editorial review structure are less aligned with this engagement
  • Editing experience limited entirely to one's own work is also less relevant
