Urban Planner

Job Location Fresno or Visalia, CA

Senior/Principal Urban Planner Responsibilities:

The Senior Planner will have a diverse land use planning skill set and the ability to manage a variety of complex projects. Under supervision of Department Manager/Director of Planning, the Senior level planner will be the lead coordinator on development of plans for large residential, mixed-use, and industrial areas. The planner will also lead environmental document preparation such as exemptions, Negative Declarations, and EIRs. The Senior planner will coordinate with other departments, agencies, consultants, private developers, and citizens in the projects. We are looking for someone who provides great customer service to all of our clients and the ability to build strong relationships with those we serve.

Knowledge of: Detailed, in-depth working knowledge of governmental planning and zoning; current trends in federal, state and local planning; national, state and local laws relating to planning of governmental and private agencies affecting community planning including, but not limited to, the Subdivision Map Act and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Current research and investigation programs of governmental and private agencies affecting community planning; and principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluations.

Ability to: Collect, analyze, and interpret data pertaining to planning and zoning regulations in a complex agricultural and urban area; Act as project planner/manager on more complex planning studies, environmental documents, and development projects; interpret and explain City ordinances and codes; organize workload and prioritize assigned responsibilities to ensure accomplishment of Planning Division goals and duties; exercise independent judgment and initiative; prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive planning reports and discuss them before public groups; perform basic personal computer operations including word processing and spreadsheets; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Organize work load and prioritize assigned responsibilities; delegate tasks to ensure accomplishment of the Planning Division goals and duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. The position requires a B.S. in Urban Planning or Related Field
  2. AICP preferred
  3. Strong technical background in Planning
  4. Minimum of 5 years as lead project Planning role

Compensation

Salary will be determined by candidates skill and experience level and highly competitive with industry standards. Benefits package includes full employee health coverage (50% coverage for dependents), company 401(k) contribution, and performance bonuses.
