Schedule: Monday - Thursday: 9 hours / Friday: 4 hours
Position Overview and Key Responsibilities:
4Creeks is seeking a GIS Department Manager to lead our GIS Team under the direction of the Survey Group Director. This role is responsible for overseeing GIS operations, project delivery, and team performance while supporting consulting, engineering, and planning teams across multiple market sectors. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a solid technical GIS background who can manage people, projects, and client relationships while driving innovation and efficiency across the organization. This position will be primarily office work and may require occasional field work. Responsibilities for this position would include:
GIS Administration, Analysis & Data Management
- Develop, maintain, and optimize GIS applications, tools, and workflows using Esri ArcGIS platforms (Pro, Online, Enterprise).
- Perform spatial analysis and produce high-quality maps and visualizations to support decision-making.
- Oversee GIS data lifecycle management, including collection, QA/QC, database management, and interpretation of engineering data.
- Establish and maintain GIS standards, policies, and best practices to ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
- Automate workflows and improve efficiency using scripting and Esri tools (e.g., Python, ModelBuilder, Field Maps, Survey123).
- Administer GIS systems and provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and support to internal teams and clients.
Project Delivery, Client Management & Business Development
- Lead GIS support across multiple service areas, including Water, Public Works, Agriculture, Planning, and Architecture.
- Manage project deliverables, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely execution.
- Coordinate team workload and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver effective GIS solutions.
- Serve as a primary client contact, building strong relationships and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for new work, expanded services, and strategic partnerships.
- Support proposals and contribute to process improvements, automation, and tool adoption to enhance efficiency and delivery.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing GIS team, fostering accountability and collaboration.
- Manage team workload, performance, and operational efficiency to support scalable growth.
- Oversee resource planning, forecasting, and team utilization to ensure effective project delivery.
- Support department performance through tracking of key metrics, backlog management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field.
- 6+ years of progressive GIS experience, including project management or leadership.
- Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS platforms (Pro, Online, Enterprise) and GIS data/workflow management across multiple projects.
- Experience with scripting/automation (e.g., Python, ModelBuilder).
- Demonstrated ability to lead or supervise staff and manage team workloads.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal teams and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with California water, public works, or infrastructure-related projects.
- Experience supporting engineering and survey workflows within a consulting environment.
- GISP certification.
- Familiarity with drone/UAS data collection workflows and integration of imagery or point cloud data into GIS.
Compensation
The salary will be determined by the candidate's skill and experience level and highly competitive with industry standards. The benefits package includes full employee health coverage (50% coverage for dependents), company 401(k) contribution, participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), and performance bonuses. The expected pay range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000/annually.
