IBG is working with an Australian engineering and construction company with a global footprint to appoint a Business Unit Commercial Lead.
The organisation delivers mechanical and electrical engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance services across major infrastructure and energy projects in Australia and internationally, including North America, the UK, Africa and the Middle East.
As the business continues to expand its operations in New South Wales, we are assisting them in strengthening their commercial leadership capability.

The Opportunity
This is a senior commercial leadership role responsible for leading the commercial function across a business unit delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects.
As the Business Unit Commercial Lead, you will provide strategic oversight of commercial performance, governance and risk across a portfolio of work.
The role works closely with senior leadership and project teams to ensure strong financial, contractual and commercial outcomes while supporting the long term objectives of the business.
You will play a key role in establishing commercial frameworks, supporting delivery teams and ensuring consistent commercial management across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership and Governance
- Provide commercial leadership across the business unit, establishing frameworks and governance to support consistent delivery.
- Partner with senior leaders to shape commercial strategy and support business planning.
- Provide oversight and guidance to project commercial teams across multiple projects.
Contract and Risk Management
- Oversee contract administration strategies for head contracts and major subcontract packages.
- Provide high level commercial advice and contract interpretation to project and leadership teams.
- Guide the management of variations, claims, disputes and commercial risk.
Financial Oversight and Performance
- Oversee commercial forecasting, cash flow and cost to complete across the portfolio.
- Review and challenge project commercial performance and risk positions.
- Support accurate and timely reporting to senior leadership.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong internal relationships across delivery, finance and executive teams.
- Support engagement with clients, partners and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to a collaborative and high performing commercial culture.
About You
- Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role within infrastructure, construction or energy sectors.
- Strong understanding of commercial governance, contract management and financial oversight across multiple projects.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels within complex project environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with sound commercial judgement.
