Our client, Crown Office Chambers, is recognised as one of the leading sets in the UK.
Chambers is seeking to recruit a Junior Team Clerk for their Clinical Negligence, Industrial Disease and Personal Injury Team. This position forms part of a seven person clerking team, working under the current Senior Team Clerk and Team Clerks; and alongside two Junior Team Clerks. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years desk clerking experience and be able to demonstrate the competencies required for this role.
The Junior Team Clerk is directly responsible to the Senior Team Clerk for duties including:
- assisting with the diary and practice management of pupils and junior barristers within your teams practice areas
 - chasing instructions and briefs to ensure prompt delivery
 - entering and acknowledging incoming papers
 - where appropriate, assessing, agreeing and entering fees for work done and issuing fee notes
 - preparing CFAs, COMBAR Terms or other relevant fee agreements.
 - listing of cases in all divisions of the high court and county courts when necessary
 - overseeing and assisting when necessary the junior clerks
 - assisting in monitoring the day-to-day performance of the junior clerks and giving direction where necessary
 - assisting the Senior Managing Clerk in ensuring that the junior clerks are coached and encouraged to develop their skills and personalities in a way that will be most beneficial to the future performance of Chambers
 - ensuring proper and adequate liaison with Members of Chambers and clients in relation to all aspect of fee negotiation and collection
 - assist in building and developing relationships with solicitors so as to enhance Chambers profile with existing clients and promote Chambers and all its members to new clients
 - The Junior Team Clerk, in common with all staff, will need to be prepared to perform cover duties for colleagues in their absence or during particularly busy periods, and perform any work tasks requested in order to keep the organisation running smoothly.
 
Skills and Experience required
Essential
- Ability to problem solve essential
 - Ability to draft well-worded communications essential
 - Minimum 3 years desk clerking experience.
 
Desirable
- Understanding of the workings of the insurance market
 - Public Access trained.
 - Experience of Lex case management system.
 - Experience of/ ability to lead, mentor, supervise and encourage more junior colleagues.
