About the Role:
3DJB Chambers are seeking an Assistant Practice Manager (Third Junior Clerk) to join their highly efficient and friendly clerking team. Reporting to the Senior Clerk, the successful candidates role would include assisting in the efficient operation of the Clerks room and the delivery of a high-quality service to members of Chambers and their clients.
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years clerking experience – or similar, as well as being confident, personable and enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn.
Hours: 8.45-6pm with one hour lunch break. Chambers may ask you to undertake duties outside normal working hours for marketing purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Logging instructions on to Lex, distributing work, diarising and confirming court work and conferences. Negotiating fees and fee structures, fee billing, marking briefs and, where needed, listing cases.
- Operating Lex diary system to manage and update the data in relation to diary dates, case records, contact details and other related data.
- Answering queries or requests for information by clients.
- Liaising with current and potential solicitors; ensuring all solicitors know all services each member of Chambers can provide.
- Dealing with public access clients.
- Generating opportunities for all members by all reasonable and proper means.
- Carrying out such other tasks as the senior clerking team shall reasonably require.
- Undertaking regular training and education to develop additional skills and understanding relevant to your employment.
- Ensuring that all professional and lay clients are treated courteously.
- Supporting Chambers marketing efforts by generating leads, attending promotional events, and helping to arrange visits with solicitors and potential clients.
Required Skills
Strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and a professional, client-focused approach are key to success in this role.
- Confident and outgoing personality, and a willingness to deal directly with solicitors and promote and market Chambers to them.
- Good people skills – including being able to work well with people from a variety of different backgrounds.
- Smart personal presentation.
- Good spelling and grammar.
- High standard of planning and organisational abilities.
- Computer skills including:
- Use of Lex and/or other Chambers diary systems (although training can be given)
- Use of all Microsoft 365 programs particularly Outlook.
Desirable Skills
- Working/basic knowledge of barristers fees and billing systems (training possible)
- Working/basic knowledge of the Public Access system (training possible)
- Basic knowledge of the court and legal system, including an awareness of the differences between different practice areas
