Our client is aleading Commercial & Chancery Chambers based in Lincolns Inn. Their members are highly regarded advisers and advocates in domestic matters and noted for their work in offshore and international jurisdictions. Chambers is now seeking a Junior Clerk to join their dynamic team, to assist in the efficient running of Chambers.

The successful candidate will report to Chambers Senior Clerk and the Practice Managers, the role will be to assist the Practice Managers in the efficient operation of the Clerks room and the delivery of a high-quality service to members of Chambers and their clients. Whilst also beginning to develop an understanding of the various aspects of a Barristers Clerks responsibilities and laying the foundations for a career in chambers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To check the daily diary and, if requested, assist those barristers attending court/conferences.
  • Preparing bundles for barristers (hearing and authorities) by either photocopying or printing and sourcing authorities, books and statutes
  • To ensure that papers put out by barristers are regularly cleared from corridors and returned to solicitors promptly and logged in LEX as returned.
  • Administrative tasks including distribution of post and DX, preparing outgoing post and DX and monitoring stationary;
  • To assist Senior Clerk as directed
  • To assist colleagues and barristers with general tasks as required.
  • To assist in the maintenance and upkeep of Chambers as directed
  • To assist with preparation and administration of Chambers events.

Person Specifications

  • Keen to learn with a positive can do attitude
  • Strong organisational skills for managing diaries, booking court dates, and keeping track of documents.
  • Attention to detail vital for clerical accuracy and client communications.
  • Time management ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond to shifting priorities.
  • IT proficiency
  • Clear and confident communication both written and verbal
  • Polite and professional demeanour both in person and on telephone
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • Tact and diplomacy handles high-pressure situations and demanding clients with calm professionalism.
  • Resilience able to manage workload, occasional long hours, and tight deadlines.
  • Reliability trusted to follow through on responsibilities with consistency.
  • Initiative spots potential issues and proactively finds solutions.
  • Adaptability can flex with the fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable nature of chambers life.
