15 NBS Chambers is a leading criminal barristers chambers and are currenting advertising for the role of a full time Criminal Fees Clerk (5 days per week). The successful applicant will work in close liaison with the Finance Manager and the Clerks (headed by the Chambers Director). The Fees Clerk reports to the Finance Manager.
The role is divided into the following areas of responsibility and activity:-
· Billing Defence AGFS and CPS GFCs, Court of Appeal, CPS VHCC and, Certificate for Counsel bills
· Processing incoming payments/remittance statements for all members of Chambers and updating the LEX system and appropriate spreadsheets accordingly
· Dealing with anomalies in payments/determinations, instigating queries and submitting re-determinations/appeals
· Produce and store acknowledgements/receipts for payments received in accordance with current accounting requirements and individual barristers personal accounting requirements
· In liaison with the Finance Manager to complete the twice monthly payment run to all members, including recharges
· Liaise with the Criminal Clerks and individual barristers where necessary on fees which are proving problematic
· Producing payment runs and aged debts when requested by members, or their accountants
· Covering for the Finance Manager whilst on annual leave
· Chasing Aged Debt
· Keeping on top of Defence unbilled reports and unpaid CPS Fees
· To undertake any reasonable tasks as instructed by the Finance Manager or the Chambers Director.
Skills and requirements:
· Will ideally have proficiency in LEX or MLC
· Knowledge of the AGFS and CPS Fee regulations
· Previous experience in processing barrister payment runs, Bar Stat and Sage (preferable although not essential).
*There will be a 6-month probation period following which there is potential to work remotely, although the fees clerk will have to work occasional days throughout the year in chambers (London).
