Our client, Brick Court Chambers, one of the leading sets of barristers chambers in the UK, with a strong reputation for Commercial, Competition, Public and International/EU law, is seeking a Deputy Senior Clerk to join their team.
Reporting to: Senior Clerks
Liaising with: Members of Chambers, Clerking teams, Fees Clerks, Chambers Staff, Clients
Contract Type: Permanent Full Time
The successful individual will support and work with the Senior Clerks to provide leadership and strategic direction in practice management, business development, and team management. They will ensure efficient and effective service to Members of Chambers, clients and staff while driving Chambers growth and reputation in the marketplace.
Specific Responsibilities
Practice Management
- Maintain an excellent, professional working relationship with Members of Chambers.
- Carry out annual practice review meetings with Members of Chambers to assess and
- develop their practices. Prepare reports, set goals and implement plans aligned with
- Chambers Business and Marketing plans.
- Oversee diary management processes, ensuring fair and effective allocation of work for all Members of Chambers.
- Oversee and ensure professional and effective fee negotiation processes.
- Facilitate the re-establishment of practices following periods of leave and support Members well-being.
- Support compliance of chambers policy and with professional, contractual and regulatory obligations across all clerking activities.
- Deputise for the Senior Clerks as required.
Business Development
- Collaborate with the Senior Clerks and Head of Marketing to develop and implement Chambers marketing, business development and growth strategies.
- Represent Chambers at conferences, seminars and networking events.
- Monitor market trends, conduct research, and produce reports on potential new business opportunities.
Team Management
- Support the Senior Clerks by leading, managing, and developing the practice management teams.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and development of clerking teams.
General Responsibilities
- To provide and maintain a first class, courteous and professional service at all times.
- To support an open culture between clerks and Members of Chambers, where individuals feel able to share ideas and express opinions.
- Produce reports on clerking activities, outstanding work and financial performance as required.
- Attend Chambers subcommittees as required by Senior Clerks.
Person specification
Experience and knowledge
- Demonstrable record of success in a Senior Clerking or Senior Practice Management role in a similarly fast paced Chambers or legal environment.
- Experienced in leading teams and driving strategic growth while managing competing priorities.
- Capable of working closely with barristers to develop practices.
- Able to strengthen existing partnerships and attract new work.
