TITLE:                           Experienced Junior Clerk

ROLE:                           Provide support to the Clerks team.

Provide support to the Legal Services Support Supervisor in general office duties.

REPORTING TO:            Senior Clerk and Team Leaders

General Clerking Duties:

  • Managing the rota for the junior clerks to ensure all shifts are covered.
  • Lodging of documents at Court.
  • Assisting members with the delivery and collection of their documents and books to and from court and other venues.
  • Sourcing case authorities and compiling/photocopying bundles.
  • Mentoring & training junior clerks where appropriate.
  • Answering incoming telephone calls and directing calls to members of staff when reception is otherwise engaged.
  • Management of archiving (box and file storage) in Chambers and at external sites.
  • Hand deliveries.
  • Collection and delivery of post from DX.
  • General photocopying and bundling.
  • Efficient management and distribution of incoming communications, post and urgent papers/instructions.
  • Entering fees and case data on to the LEX system

General Office Duties:

  • Prepare and frank postage.
  • Book couriers.
  • Photocopying and bundling; ensuring correct re-charges are made to Members.
  • Assist finance team with banking.
  • Assist with the general upkeep and tidiness of Chambers offices space and in particular Members offices (boxing up files for archiving, arranging shredding etc).

Any other day to day tasks as reasonably requested.

Performance Measured by:

  • Knowledge and experience of court procedures.
  • Efficiency in dealing with work and accuracy of work produced.
  • Ability to work with initiative, maintaining a flexible and responsible attitude, both personally and within the department and Chambers.
  • Good team working.
  • Positive feedback from members and staff.
  • Personal development and contribution to the overall business objectives of chambers.
  • Good attendance and timekeeping.
