Chambers are looking for an experienced Fees and Administration Clerk to support their busy Chambers. The Fees Clerk will work as a member of the Administration Team and in close liaison with the Clerks. The Fees Clerk is responsible for processing and recording Chambers' day to day fee income, rent contribution calculations and bank transfers as well as other essential billing/banking requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Daily fees A/C reconciliation in accordance with LEX and paying off system.
  2. Calculation of individual members' rent liability and transfer of fees due to them via Chambers' banking software.
  3. Monitor Chambers' time recording software and billing inboxes, use the information submitted by Members of Chambers to accurately complete the necessary billing.
  4. Oversee the collection of all fees including use of systems of continuous chasing cycles with reminder fee notes, emails and telephone contact where appropriate.
  5. Proactively process and chase unbilled work, and where necessary escalate to formal debt recovery after reference to the Director of Clerking, and the member(s) associated.
  6. Provision of LEX reports when requested and with expediency.
  7. Assistance with administrative tasks when required.
  8. Respond to due diligence queries from clients and liaise with IT when necessary, for example, Cyber Questionnaires.
  9. Provide reports to member accountants when required
  10. Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes.

The successful applicant will demonstrate awareness of the distinct yet complementary roles of each, recognising the importance of effective communication, trust, and professionalism in delivering high-quality legal services.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a fees clerk, credit control, legal finance, or similar clerking/administrative role within a chambers environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and previous use of the LEX system.
  • Ability to professionally and confidently interact with solicitors and barristers.
  • Proficiency in prioritising and multi-tasking.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage complex and competing priorities.
  • Excellent IT Skills including basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
