Overview

Inner West Council is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Mechanic Apprentice. This apprenticeship offers the chance to gain hands-on experience in heavy vehicle mechanical technology, working with a diverse fleet of vehicles, including garbage trucks, mowers, whipper snippers, and tractors. As an apprentice, you will receive training and support to complete your Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, developing essential skills in servicing, maintenance, and repair work.

This is a 12-month supported program, in which you will receive continuous assistance throughout this journey.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform servicing and repairs on a variety of fleet vehicles, including garbage trucks and light vehicles.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and checks to ensure vehicles and machinery are functioning properly.
  • Work on maintaining mowers, whipper snippers, and tractors to ensure the smooth operation of council services.

Teamwork and Learning

  • Work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment to deliver high-quality maintenance services.
  • Undertake all necessary duties to support the team and expand your knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.

Training and Development

  • Complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, developing your technical expertise in the field.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, learning and upholding safety procedures in all aspects of your work.

Selection Criteria

Education and Training

  • Have completed Year 10 or higher.
  • Willingness to complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

Skills and Attributes

  • Genuine interest in the field of mechanics and a passion for problem-solving.
  • Computer literacy to assist with data entry and information lookup for vehicle diagnostics.
  • Strong physical ability to walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks as required by the role.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) to work effectively with team members and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent Inner West Council in a professional manner at all times.
  • Strong sense of self-motivation, a high work ethic, and a "can do" attitude.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a trustworthy work ethic.
  • Enjoyment of practical and manual work, with a willingness to learn.
