Adaptive Careers is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading global manufacturing business, for an IT Systems Administrator Linux. This is a permanent, site-based role located in Greenock, reporting directly to the IT Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, upgrade, and patch Linux, UNIX, Citrix, VMware, and backup environments
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and storage planning
  • Plan and implement new technologies and system upgrades
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, collaborating with stakeholders to minimise downtime
  • Manage and maintain data backup and recovery processes
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing requirements
  • Contribute to the maintenance of business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans
  • Support the upkeep of the physical and operational IT environment

About You (Essential Skills & Experience)

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and UNIX systems administration(using Centos/RedHat currently)
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure components (network, server, storage)
  • Scripting, programming, and automation skills
  • Experience with server virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware)
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery concepts
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Systems Administrator
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills

Desirable (But Not Essential):

  • Experience administering databases such as PostgreSQL
