ADG, a leading innovation and design consultancy, is seeking a Lead Researcher (Systems) to pioneer the development of cutting-edge medical devices and services. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of healthcare and requires a dynamic individual who can navigate complex stakeholder environments and manage diverse teams. This role is a 6 month full-time contract with potential for extension or promotion to a permanent full-time role. Your Role:

  • Innovation and Insight: Drive the development of groundbreaking medical devices and digital services by transforming broad concepts into detailed features. Cultivate an entrepreneurial perspective to understand and align with the incentives that drive actors in the healthcare ecosystem.

  • Strategic Influence: Collaborate on high-level strategic decisions, guiding product and business strategy with your research insights. Lead systems mapping and demonstrate the ability to distill a complex healthcare system into step-by-step opportunities for innovation.

  • Design Expertise: Contribute to both physical and digital design from ideation through testing to polished final products, ensuring resonant and intuitive stimuli and user experiences. Emphasize a multilateral approach to service design, considering the involvement of multiple actors and aligning with our medical device strategy.

  • Ecosystem Thinker: Design within a holistic ecosystem, expertly balancing the nuances of hardware, software, and service design. Demonstrate multilateral thinking in terms of service by multiple actors, particularly in conjunction with our medical device strategy.

  • Feature Brainstorming: Innovate and validate new features, ensuring they are desirable, functional, and enhance user experience. Consider how these features contribute to the overall value proposition and address the needs of various stakeholders.

  • Platform Ecosystem Stickiness: Research, design, and validate platform aspects that sell, onboard, and retain clinicians, ensuring a sticky user experience. Connect these efforts to the broader entrepreneurial and strategic context, ensuring alignment with ADG's overall goals and medical device strategy.

  • Hands-on Testing: Lead in-person testing with respiratory health clinicians and their support teams, from recruitment to execution, ensuring direct end-user feedback and validation. Use this feedback loop to inform not only service design but also contribute to the broader entrepreneurial understanding and alignment with the healthcare system's complexities.


Responsibilities:

  • Research Methods Development and Execution: Identify opportunities, define research questions, and select appropriate methods for impactful data collection.

  • Analytics and Analysis: Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data, translating insights into actionable design strategies.

  • Solution Generation and Design: Proactively ideate and visualize solutions, leading workshops, and ideation sessions.

  • Storytelling and Influence: Communicate findings with clarity, brevity, and strong visual design, influencing cross-functional partners effectively.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build relationships and integrate research throughout the company, advocating for user-centric design.

  • Mentorship and Leadership: Guide and share knowledge with team members, promoting a culture of learning and growth.

  • Project Management and Efficiency: Scope, plan, and progress projects to successful completion, balancing multiple work streams.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Design, HCI, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field.

  • 7+ years in human-centered design research, preferably with some medical devices or digital health experience.

  • Proven experience in team leadership, ideation, and workshop facilitation.

  • Proficiency in digital design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch).

  • Experience managing diverse stakeholders, subcontractors and project teams.
