We are looking to bring on a smart, motivated individual as an Innovation Strategy & Operations Manager to help grow our design agency. At the first full-time hire, this role will be vital in leveling up our team’s operations, systems design process, and client services.

What you’ll do:

You will work closely with our CEO to grow the team, deliver on meaningful client projects, and advocate for more thoughtful systems design. You will have the chance to collaborate with designers, researchers, and strategists from varied walks of life. You’ll also touch many aspects of the business, including recruiting, startup operations, and project delivery. We don’t expect you to have done it all before, but we do expect you to be eager to learn, experiment, and try.

In your first six months, you’ll be expected to:

  • Grow the team – Establish a trusted pool of dedicated design specialists that can be deployed to client projects, from recruitment, talent evaluation, and referral programs. Your sense of how successful design teams work individually and together to collaborate toward a design goal is important.

  • Deliver innovation projects – Support design teams in planning and executing projects. This includes a bit of project management, research design, systems thinking, and deep collaboration with others

  • Research operations – Support researchers in planning, recruiting, and conducting user, business, and systems research

  • Set the foundation for a Design & Society approach – As the first full-time employee, you will help codify the Design & Society approach for the first time ever, serving as a foundation that project teams can leverage in their work

  • Highly communicative – you’ll be working remote for this role, so ask questions, keep up to date, and share progress regularly through our online channels

  • Ambitious – you’re hungry for growth, high impact work, and learning from other smart team members and clients

  • Analytical – data (quantitative and qualitative) drives our approach, and being able to break down problems and analyze its components with rigour is essential

  • Systems thinker – believe design has the potential to impact businesses and societies, and so we need someone who can understand and negotiate complexity

  • Values trust and good work – we do not negotiate on quality and build reputation through trusted partnerships

  • Ideal experience – Bachelor degree + 2 years experience or a Masters degree


  • $60-75k CAD yearly salary

  • Start on a full-time or part-time contract with the goal of becoming full-time permanent after 6 months

  • Personalized training and coaching from Founder and other leaders at ADG

  • Ability to work remotely anywhere primarily from Canada
