Solution Architect

ADVANS Portugal is looking for a Solution Architect for a project in the Aviation & Airport Industry.

We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect with strong AWS expertise and solid knowledge of the aviation and airport ecosystem to support our growth and lead strategic client engagements.

Role Overview

As a Solution Architect, you are responsible for defining and owning the end-to-end solution architecture for complex client projects. You bridge business needs and technical execution, ensuring that proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with both client expectations and our companys architecture standards.

You act as a trusted technical advisor for clients and internal teams, from presales through delivery and run phases.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Requirements Understanding

• Engage with clients to understand business objectives, operational constraints, and technical requirements in aviation and airport contexts.
• Translate business needs into clear, structured, and actionable solution architectures.
• Identify key architectural drivers, risks, assumptions, and dependencies.

Solution Architecture & Design

• Define end-to-end solution architectures, with a strong focus on AWS-based and cloud-native solutions.
• Select appropriate technologies, services, and integration patterns (microservices, APIs, event-driven, data platforms, security).
• Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements such as performance, availability, scalability, and compliance.
• Align solutions with enterprise architecture principles and client IT strategies.

Presales & Client Advisory

• Act as the main technical contributor during presales activities (RFPs, solution definition, estimations, technical presentations).
• Present architecture proposals and trade-offs to client stakeholders, including senior management.
• Support account and sales teams in building credible, value-driven technical propositions.

Delivery Support & Governance

• Produce and maintain architecture documentation, roadmaps, and implementation plans.
• Support delivery teams during build and deployment phases, ensuring architectural consistency.
• Participate in architecture reviews, steering committees, and governance forums.
• Work within Agile / SAFe environments and support transition to development teams.

Leadership & Expertise

• Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and junior architects.
• Contribute to architecture standards, best practices, and reusable assets.
• Promote collaboration and cross-domain synergies across teams and clients.

Profile & Skills

• Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in solution architecture, technical design, or consulting roles.
• Strong hands-on and design expertise with AWS services and architectures.
• Proven experience in the aviation and/or airport industry (airlines, airports, aviation IT systems).
• Solid understanding of complex, distributed, and mission-critical systems.
• Strong client-facing and consulting skills
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including C-level.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements in parallel.
• Autonomous, proactive, accountable, and team-oriented.
• Experience with Agile / SAFe frameworks is a strong plus.
• Able to travel in Europe ~20% of the time.
