We are recruiting on behalf of a valued client for an experienced and passionate Senior Childcare Practitioner to join a supportive residential childcare team in Coventry.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated childcare professional who wants to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people aged 6-18. You will be working in a warm, nurturing environment where the priority is safeguarding, supporting, and empowering young people to develop independence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Salary: £15 PH 37.5 hours PW

Schedule: 2 days of 07:00-22:00pm and either 1 late or 1 early 07:00-15:00pm or 14:30-22:00pm plus one sleep in shift per week which is paid at £60.00 per night

Purpose of the Role

As a Senior Childcare Practitioner, you will be a key figure in the daily care and support of children and young people with complex needs, including those with Learning Disabilities, SEMH, EBD, Autism, and Asperger's. You will play an important role in their development, helping them achieve personal goals and navigate the challenges in their lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality day-to-day care, emotional support, and safeguarding for children and young people
  • Act as a role model by promoting positive behaviour and leading by example
  • Administer medication and treatment in line with policy and training
  • Build strong, trusting relationships as a key attachment figure
  • Support and maintain contact between young people and their families/community
  • Encourage engagement in hobbies, education, health, and social activities
  • Contribute to placement planning, care reviews, and record-keeping
  • Plan and deliver key worker sessions tailored to individual needs
  • Support children with personal care and daily living tasks where necessary
  • Advocate for children's rights and ensure their voices are heard
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, supporting junior team members when needed
  • Follow the organisations lone working and safeguarding procedures
  • Promote equality, respect, and inclusion in all aspects of care

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification: Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Experience: Proven experience working with children and young people with Learning Disabilities, SEMH, EBD, and challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge: Strong working understanding of:
    • Safeguarding and child protection procedures
    • The Children's Homes Regulations 2015
    • Health & Safety legislation
    • Autism, Asperger's, and complex emotional needs

Desirable

  • Relevant training in safeguarding or behaviour management strategies

Additional Information

  • A full, enhanced DBS check will be required before commencing employment

    • Professional experience with relevant client groups
