Role Overview

A growing CPA firm is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Associate to support day-to-day tax preparation and administrative tax tasks. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on tax preparation experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, small-firm environment. Experience with U.S.-based tax preparation is a strong advantage but not a strict requirement, provided the candidate has solid tax prep fundamentals and is able to learn U.S. tax processes.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Compliance

Prepare individual tax returns (tax preparation experience required)

Assist with business tax returns under supervision

Prepare extensions, estimated payments, and amended returns

Organize and review client tax documents for accuracy and completeness Assist with basic state and local tax filings

Day-to-Day Firm Support

Enter and reconcile tax data in tax preparation software

Support CPAs and senior staff with tax-season workloads

Track return statuses, deadlines, and deliverables

Assist with tax notices and correspondence under guidance

Support bookkeeping or cleanup work as needed for tax prep

Client & Administrative Support

Assist with client onboarding and document collection

Maintain well-organized digital client files and workpapers

Communicate professionally with clients regarding missing or clarifying information Help standardize and improve internal tax processes

Required Experience & Skills

Tax preparation experience (required)

13+ years’ experience in tax, accounting, or public accounting support Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes

Comfortable working with deadlines, especially during busy season

Good written English and professional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with U.S.-based tax preparation (strong plus, not required) Exposure to individual and small business tax returns

Familiarity with tax preparation software (Drake, ProSeries, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar) Accounting, Finance, or Tax qualification or relevant coursework

Experience supporting a small CPA firm
