About the job Plant Metallurgist - Mining - Northern Cape
Our mining client in the Northern Cape is looking for a Plant Metallurgist who will be responsible for monitoring and improving metallurgical processes within the plant to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and safe production. This role will contribute to production optimization, continuous improvement initiatives, and research and development, while ensuring compliance with SHERQ standards and legal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and monitor production process performance and identify areas for optimization.
- Conduct process simulations and test work to support plant improvements and modifications.
- Lead and contribute to Research and Development (R&D) projects to enhance processing efficiency.
- Drive and participate in continuous improvement projects, focused on safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Ensure adherence to SHERQ standards and contribute to a culture of safety, health, environment, risk, and quality compliance.
- Maintain a high level of work ethics and foster a team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Metallurgy (required).
- BTech Degree / Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Metallurgy (advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years operational experience in Mineral Processing.
- Minimum 1 year in a supervisory, team leader, or project leadership role (advantageous).
- Minimum 2 years experience with Gravity Separation Technology (advantageous).
- Valid Drivers' License.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Technical Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of process theory including:
- Crushing, screening, conveying, stacking, and reclaiming.
- Gravity separation (jigging), cyclones, thickeners, tailings disposal.
- Sampling, dust suppression, on-line analyzers.
Interpretation of process flow and instrumentation diagrams related to:
- Bruce Primary & Secondary Crushing.
- Overland Conveyor & ROM Stacking.
- On-Grade and Off-Grade Wash and Screening.
- Beneficiation and High-Pressure Roller Crushing.
- Product Conveying, Water & Slime Handling, and Automated Control Systems.
- Maintenance Management Systems.
Diagnostic & Analytical Skills:
- Root Cause Analysis.
- Problem Solving.
- Trend Analysis & Report Writing.
Systems Knowledge:
- MS Office (Advanced).
- JDE, MES, Scada systems.
- Risk Assessments and Permit to Work systems.
Legal & Compliance Knowledge:
- Mine Health and Safety Act.
- SAQA Regulations.
- Company COPs and SHERQ procedures.
- First Aid Certification (advantageous).
