ML Engineer
About the job ML Engineer
For our client we're looking for a researcher to drive prototyping and model experimentation for products in invisible watermarking, AI content detection, and low-level ML / computer vision. This is an R&D-focused role — not production engineering. The ideal candidate can read research papers, understand complex technical topics, propose approaches, test hypotheses, train models, and independently move through uncertainty. The role can start as a part-time or trial engagement and grow into a full-time monthly retainer.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching and prototyping approaches for invisible watermarking and AI content detection;
- Reading and analyzing academic papers, technical articles, and existing approaches;
- Translating research findings into practical experiments and prototypes;
- Training, testing, and evaluating ML / computer vision models;
- Exploring low-level ML approaches connected to images, signals, or visual data;
- Working on proof-of-concepts and experimental pipelines;
- Comparing different technical approaches and clearly explaining trade-offs;
- Collaborating with the CTO and technical team to define research direction;
- Working independently on complex technical tasks with limited handholding;
- Documenting findings, experiments, conclusions, and next steps clearly;
- Helping the team understand what's technically feasible and what needs more exploration.
What we expect from you:
- Strong experience in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or related applied research;
- Experience with image processing, visual data, or model training;
- Strong ability to read and understand research papers;
- Ability to design experiments and validate hypotheses;
- Strong Python and ML ecosystem experience;
- Experience with model prototyping rather than only production implementation;
- Ability to work independently in an R&D context;
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to technical and semi-technical stakeholders;
- PhD or strong academic / research background in Computer Vision, ML, Physics, Optics, Signal Processing, or a related field is a strong plus;
- Experience with invisible watermarking, content authenticity, AI-generated content detection, or media forensics is a plus;
- Background in signal processing or low-level image / video processing is a plus;
- Experience moving from paper / research concept to working prototype is a plus.
We offer:
- Interesting R&D challenges at the intersection of computer vision, signal processing, and AI — work that matters;
- Work in a team of creative, proactive, and empathic people;
- Flexible engagement format: start part-time or on a trial basis, grow into a full-time monthly retainer;
- Flexible location and time zone — with overlap with the core team preferred;
- Lack of bureaucracy, regular feedback, and support from colleagues;
- Trial period (3 months on average, but everything is in your hands — go ahead!);
- Fun team activities, online events, and more.
