About the job Senior Agronomist - Maize
A well-established agribusiness operating across West Africa is seeking a Senior Agronomist to lead the agronomic strategy and execution for large-scale maize farming operations. This is a key technical and leadership role suited for an individual with deep expertise in maize cultivation, soil and crop management, and the ability to guide on-ground teams across rural farm settings.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement agronomic strategies focused on maximizing maize yield and quality across diverse agroecological zones.

Oversee soil analysis, land preparation, seed selection, fertilization, irrigation, and pest/disease control programs specific to maize.

Monitor crop performance and implement corrective actions based on field data, trials, and seasonal dynamics.

Train and support field agronomists and farm supervisors, ensuring adherence to best practices in maize production.

Collaborate with the operations team to align agronomy plans with planting, harvesting, and mechanization schedules.

Lead trials and research on hybrid maize varieties, input usage, and climate-smart practices.

Ensure accurate documentation of crop performance, inputs, yields, and field activities.

Provide technical reports and insights to management to guide strategic decisions.

Uphold environmental, sustainability, and safety standards across all agronomic practices.
Ideal Candidate Profile:

7+ years of hands-on agronomy experience with a strong focus on commercial maize production.

In-depth knowledge of maize agronomy, including high-yield practices, pest/disease management, and soil fertility.

Previous experience working in West African agricultural systems or similar sub-Saharan environments.

Proven ability to work across large-scale farming operations (1,000+ ha preferred).

Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Proficient in field data analysis and reporting.

Fluent in English; French language skills are a strong advantage.
