A Financial Market Trader in the African context is responsible for executing trades across multiple financial instruments primarily foreign exchange (FX), equities, commodities futures, and derivatives while navigating emerging-market volatility and regulatory frameworks that differ across African countries.

This person would need to understand not only global market trends but also local economic indicators (e.g., inflation, currency devaluation, central bank policies, and commodity export data) that affect African markets.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Execution: Execute buy/sell orders in equities, forex, or derivative products on behalf of the company or clients.

Market Research: Track African and global market trends, macroeconomic indicators, and news affecting currency or stock prices.

Risk Management: Apply hedging strategies to mitigate currency and commodity exposure (particularly relevant for African economies).

Portfolio Performance: Monitor and report on portfolio growth, P&L, and ROI metrics.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local financial regulations (e.g., SEC, CMA, or central bank rules).

Client/Investor Liaison: Present performance summaries and market insights to stakeholders.

Ideal Background

Experience: 510 years in trading, portfolio management, or investment analysis ideally with exposure to African or emerging markets.

Education: Degree in Finance, Economics, or related field (CFA or FRM certification a plus).

Technical: Strong use of Bloomberg, MetaTrader, Refinitiv, or other financial analytics tools.

Knowledge of:

African stock exchanges (JSE, NGX, GSE, BRVM)

Cross-border forex regulations

Risk mitigation in volatile markets

Soft skills: Analytical mindset, composure under pressure, and commercial intuition.
