Senior IMS DB Developer (with German)

We are looking for an experienced Senior IMS DB Developer / Administrator to further develop, optimize, and operate IMS database environments in the mainframe area. The role combines development, operations, and consulting tasks and requires strong expertise in IMS DB, IMS TM, COBOL integration, and performance optimization. You will collaborate with internal departments, international development teams, and external partners to ensure the reliability, scalability, and compliance of critical mainframe systems. Fluent German is required for communication with specialist departments, auditors, and management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and further develop IMS DB data models (Full Function & Fast Path)
• Create and maintain PSB, DBD, and ACB structures, and develop COBOL programs for IMS data processing
• Monitor and operate IMS production systems (batch and online)
• Implement reorganizations, recovery strategies, and log handling for high availability
• Optimize database and transaction architecture for scalability, latency, and resilience
• Perform performance analyses and troubleshoot in cooperation with system programming teams
• Support migration, modernization, and integration projects for IMS systems
• Ensure data integrity, compliance with GDPR and ISO 27001, and participate in audits
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation in German

Requirements

• Several years of experience with IMS DB / IMS TM in design, development, and operations
• Strong knowledge of JCL and COBOL, with REXX and Assembler considered a plus
• Experience with z/OS mainframe environments
• Expertise in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and capacity planning
• Familiarity with change and release management tools (e.g., Endevor, ISPW)
• Experience with ITIL processes and project management (classic and agile)
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills
• Fluent German (C1/C2) and good English skills
