Frontend Engineer

Smartling seeks a creative and enthusiastic Front-End Engineer to work on our cutting-edge, highly interactive platform driven by data and AI. The ideal candidate shares our excitement about learning, discussing, and implementing the latest software engineering techniques to create highly scalable and efficient services. These services are utilized by thousands of people every day.

As part of an existing team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining astate-of-the-art translation management platform that enables our clients and professional translators to manage an agile localization process for their websites and documents.

Our client list is rapidly expanding and includes top names from the technology vertical and companies in the Fortune 500.

Requirements:

• Deep expertise in JavaScript & Typescript
• Strong knowledge of the React ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering for code generation, debugging, and problem-solving
• Software Design knowledge, Design Patterns, Functional Programming
• SPA Design (Single Page Application)
• Rspack, Webpack (or Vite), and transpiling Babel or SWC
• TDD (Jest, Vitest, testing-library, Enzyme, etc.)
• Advanced JavaScript knowledge and familiarity with ES6 - ES2026
• Experience with Node (Express, fastify, hono)
• Experience with one of the package managers (npm, yarn, pnpm, bun), ability to resolve project dependency issues.
• Performance profiling (JavaScript, page load, networking)
• CSS modules/pre-processors (Sass, PostCSS)
• English language upper intermediate

Nice To Have:

• Open Source projects
• Isomorphic applications
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure
• WebSockets (beyond REST)
• Managing Monorepos (Lerna, turborepo)
• Microservices or Microfrontends
• GraphQL, Apollo Client, and Apollo Server as a plus

Tasks at hand:

• Develop a new single-page application using React + TanStack Query, TypeScript,
  supporting a11y and i18n
• Develop components within a composable component architecture that are fully
  accessible (Keyboard Navigation, Screen Readers, and WCAG 2.2 requirements)
• Peer code reviews
• Design and implement functional tests
• Collaborate with product and backend service teams
