The Role & Impact

As a Senior/Staff ML Backend Engineer, youll join our early technical team and help shape the foundation of our AI platform. Youll design and scale distributed systems, build AI-powered services, and integrate real enterprise data into production-ready pipelines. This role is hands-on and customer-facing: youll own architecture, infrastructure, and integrations working directly with U.S. founders and early customers to deliver impact and shape our roadmap.

What Youll Do

  • Architect and scale systems: Build and operate backend services (Rails + Python/FastAPI) on AWS (EKS, RDS, OpenSearch) with Terraform.

  • Ship AI features: Deploy AI agents in production using LangGraph + leading LLMs (Gemini, OpenAI), with retrieval, tools, guardrails, and offline evals.

  • Run the platform: Improve CI/CD (GitHub Actions), monitoring (Sentry, BetterStack), and observability/security by default.

  • Build data pipelines: Ingest structured/unstructured data from APIs, CSV, JSON, ERPs (e.g., NetSuite), email, and Slack making pipelines reliable, debuggable, and scalable.

  • Lead pilots: Define schemas, fix live data issues, and craft customer-specific integrations during onboarding.

  • Partner with GTM: Deliver demo-ready datasets and contribute technical insights that shape the product and win customers.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in backend engineering, with strong expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and data pipelines.

  • Languages: Proficiency in Python and/or Ruby on Rails (bonus: Golang, Java, or Node).

  • Infrastructure skills: AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, Postgres, CI/CD, monitoring/observability.

  • Data engineering skills: SQL modeling, schema/versioning, data quality, and lineage.

  • Customer orientation: Ability to work directly with customers, onboard pilots, and turn ambiguity into working systems.

  • AI/LLM exposure (bonus): Hands-on with LangChain/LangGraph, prompt/tool design, or deploying agentic workflows in production.

  • English fluency: Strong written and spoken English to collaborate with U.S. founders and customers.

30 / 60 / 90 Days

  • 30 days: Ship your first pipeline improvement or AI tool with monitoring.

  • 60 days: Own a core capability (e.g., contract analysis or NetSuite ingestion).

  • 90 days: Lead the technical onboarding of a new customer pilot and set repeatable patterns.
