Strategic Sourcing Manager – Generic Pharmaceuticals
Job Description:
AlediumHR is conducting a confidential search for a privately held pharmaceutical company looking to expand its generic pharmaceutical portfolio serving the U.S. government, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD).
We are seeking someone with experience in purchasing and strategic sourcing in the generic pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate has worked directly with generic drug manufacturers, built relationships with their commercial teams, and helped negotiate pricing, supply agreements, and product acquisition opportunities.
This is not a traditional procurement position focused on purchase orders and inventory management. The company needs someone who can identify new products, establish manufacturer relationships, and negotiate agreements that support the continued growth of its government pharmaceutical business.
The position reports directly to the CEO and offers the opportunity to play an important role in the company's expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify generic pharmaceutical products and manufacturers that present new sourcing opportunities for the company's government business.
- Develop and maintain direct relationships with generic pharmaceutical manufacturers, including sales, commercial, and business development decision-makers.
- Negotiate product pricing, supply terms, and commercial agreements in collaboration with the CEO.
- Evaluate potential products based on pricing, availability, manufacturer capabilities, supply reliability, and commercial viability.
- Identify manufacturers and products that meet Trade Agreements Act (TAA) requirements for federal government purchasing.
- Monitor generic pharmaceutical market developments, including product launches, supply shortages, pricing changes, and new sourcing opportunities.
- Work with internal operations, finance, regulatory, and government business teams to evaluate and implement new product agreements.
- Maintain an active pipeline of manufacturer relationships and sourcing opportunities, providing regular updates to the CEO.
- Develop long-term manufacturer partnerships that support continued product availability and portfolio growth.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in generic pharmaceutical strategic sourcing, purchasing, procurement, category management, or supplier relationship management.
- Direct experience working with generic pharmaceutical manufacturers and their commercial or sales organizations.
- Established manufacturer relationships and the ability to identify and engage the appropriate decision-makers.
- Experience negotiating or participating directly in pharmaceutical pricing, supply agreements, purchasing contracts, or other commercial arrangements.
- Understanding of generic pharmaceutical pricing, distribution channels, product availability, and manufacturer supply considerations.
- Ability to evaluate sourcing opportunities from both a commercial and operational standpoint.
- Strong negotiation, relationship management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate directly with senior leadership.
Preferred Background
Candidates with experience at pharmaceutical wholesalers, distributors, and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) are of particular interest. Relevant backgrounds may include organizations such as McKesson, Cardinal Health, Cencora, and regional or specialty pharmaceutical distributors.
Experience in pharmaceutical strategic sourcing, generic Rx purchasing, pharmaceutical category management, or manufacturer contracting would be especially relevant.
Candidates who have worked for generic pharmaceutical manufacturers may also be considered if they have established relationships with other manufacturers and experience in sourcing, licensing, or negotiating supply arrangements.
Familiarity with TAA-compliant pharmaceutical products, government purchasing requirements, or VA/DoD pharmaceutical distribution is preferred but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
The company offers a competitive base salary and performance incentives based on experience and qualifications.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; a 401(k); and paid time off.
This is a remote position open to candidates throughout the United States. The company prefers an East Coast location but places greater importance on relevant experience, manufacturer relationships, and demonstrated sourcing capabilities than on geography.
Travel will be required for manufacturer meetings, industry conferences, and company business reviews.
About the Opportunity
This position offers the opportunity to work directly with the CEO of an established pharmaceutical company and take an active role in expanding its generic pharmaceutical portfolio.
We are interested in speaking with professionals who have developed meaningful relationships with generic drug manufacturers and want to apply their sourcing and negotiation experience in a position with greater responsibility and direct involvement in business growth.
