PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Dispense prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications accurately.
  • Advise customers on basic drug usage, side effects, and storage.
  • Receive, verify, and store incoming stock and supplies.
  • Ensure drugs are properly labeled, stored, and organized on shelves.
  • Maintain inventory levels and report on stock status.
  • Keep accurate records of prescriptions dispensed.
  • Assist in stock-taking and expiry checks regularly.
  • Uphold hygiene and cleanliness standards in the pharmacy.
  • Follow pharmacy regulatory and licensing guidelines (e.g. PPB in Kenya).
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure patient confidentiality.

Qualifications and Requirements

Academic Qualifications

- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution accredited by the relevant regulatory authorities.

- A Certificate in Pharmaceutical Technology.

Professional Qualifications

- Registered as a Pharmaceutical Technologist with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Kenya.

- Holds a valid Annual Practising Licence issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

Experience

- At least one (1) year of relevant experience in a retail, hospital, or community pharmacy is preferred.

- Experience using pharmacy management systems and point-of-sale (POS) software is an added advantage.

Knowledge

- Good understanding of pharmaceutical products, dispensing procedures, and over-the-counter (OTC) medications.

- Knowledge of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, PPB regulations, and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines.

- Basic knowledge of inventory management and stock control.

- Familiarity with prescription interpretation and pharmaceutical terminology.
