About the job Removal Paralegal
The Removal Paralegal supports the immigration practice with a specific focus on removal (deportation) defense cases. This role involves working closely with attorneys to provide comprehensive support for clients facing removal proceedings, including preparing for hearings and appeals, conducting legal research, and communicating with clients in English and Spanish.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in preparing for removal defense cases, including hearings and appeals.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on immigration laws and past case precedents.
- Prepare and file various legal documents, such as motions, briefs, and appeals.
- Communicate with clients in English and Spanish to gather information and keep them informed about their cases.
- Manage case files and maintain detailed documentation.
- Coordinate with government agencies, courts, and other entities as required.
- Provide general paralegal support to the immigration legal team.
- Additional related duties as required.
Skills Required
- Associate's degree or paralegal certificate; Bachelors degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in immigration law with a focus on removal defense.
- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of immigration law, particularly removal proceedings.
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in legal software, Microsoft Office, and online research tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- Commitment to ethical legal practice and client confidentiality.
Technical Requirements
Computer Specification
- A PC or Laptop with at least an Intel 8th Gen processor (Core i5 and above), AMD Ryzen 5 3000 series or above, with Windows 11, or a Mac M1 processor or above, with a minimum of 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.
- Two screens/monitors.
- USB Wireless headset or a USB wired Headset.
- At least a 40 Mbps internet connection. It needs to be wired to minimize latency.
