Second Officer

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Second Officer to join our team on board one of our commercial vessels. The Second Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, as well as maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist the Captain and Chief Officer in the day-to-day operations of the vessel

- Take charge of the navigation and steering of the vessel during watchkeeping duties

- Monitor and maintain the vessel's navigational equipment and systems

- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations

- Conduct regular safety inspections and drills

- Maintain accurate records of the vessel's position, speed, and course

- Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo

- Supervise and train junior deck officers and crew members

- Keep the deck department inventory and supplies up-to-date

- Communicate effectively with other crew members and shore-based personnel

- Participate in emergency response procedures and drills

- Perform any other duties assigned by the Captain or Chief Officer.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Second Officer on a commercial vessel

- Valid STCW certification, including Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW)

- Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with appropriate endorsements

- Proficiency in the use of navigational equipment and electronic chart systems

- Excellent communication and leadership skills

- Good understanding of safety and environmental regulations

- Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment

- Physically fit and able to perform duties in all weather conditions.
