Location: Onboard / Global Operations
Job Purpose:
The Electro-Technical Rating (ETR) assists the Electro-Technical Officer and Engineering team in the maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical and electronic systems onboard. The role provides hands-on technical support, ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems including:
- Power generation and distribution systems
- Lighting circuits and fixtures
- Electric motors, pumps, and control panels
- Battery systems and emergency power supply
- Support ETO in troubleshooting automation and monitoring systems.
- Help inspect, clean, and replace components of electronic and electrical systems.
- Follow preventive maintenance routines as per the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of electrical workshops and storerooms.
- Assist in preparing tools and spare parts for electrical maintenance.
- Participate in safety drills and understand electrical safety protocols onboard.
- Report equipment faults, near-miss incidents, and hazards promptly.
Requirements:
- STCW-compliant training for Electro-Technical Rating (as per STCW Reg III/7)
- Valid Basic Safety Training (BST) and Medical Certificate
- Working knowledge of electrical tools, safety equipment, and procedures
- Basic understanding of marine electrical systems and circuits
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from ETO and engineers
Preferred:
- Previous seagoing experience in an engine or electrical capacity
- Technical school or vocational background in electrical/electronic engineering
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
