Location: Onboard / Global Operations

Job Purpose:

The Electro-Technical Rating (ETR) assists the Electro-Technical Officer and Engineering team in the maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical and electronic systems onboard. The role provides hands-on technical support, ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems including:
  • Power generation and distribution systems
  • Lighting circuits and fixtures
  • Electric motors, pumps, and control panels
  • Battery systems and emergency power supply

• Support ETO in troubleshooting automation and monitoring systems.
• Help inspect, clean, and replace components of electronic and electrical systems.
• Follow preventive maintenance routines as per the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of electrical workshops and storerooms.
• Assist in preparing tools and spare parts for electrical maintenance.
• Participate in safety drills and understand electrical safety protocols onboard.
• Report equipment faults, near-miss incidents, and hazards promptly.

Requirements:

• STCW-compliant training for Electro-Technical Rating (as per STCW Reg III/7)
• Valid Basic Safety Training (BST) and Medical Certificate
• Working knowledge of electrical tools, safety equipment, and procedures
• Basic understanding of marine electrical systems and circuits
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions from ETO and engineers

Preferred:

• Previous seagoing experience in an engine or electrical capacity
• Technical school or vocational background in electrical/electronic engineering
• Ability to communicate effectively in English
