Job Description Assistant Waiter
Purpose of Position:
- Ensures efficient food and beverage (F&B) operations, maintaining high production, quality, and guest-service standards in accordance with Vikings STAR Service Standards.
- Creates a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business.
Responsibilities:
- Learn and use appropriate food and wine terminology & pronunciation to enhance the guest's dining experience.
- Become familiar with menu descriptions and wine lists to discuss items appropriately with guests.
- Have full knowledge of Vikings F&B options and ship activities to provide accurate information.
- Present F&B menus to guests, suggest dinner courses and wine pairings, and answer menu-related questions.
- Relay orders to the Galley using MXP Ordering Software and serve food and beverages per company standards.
- Follow Company Alcohol Serving Policies when serving drinks.
- Assist in F&B activities such as cocktail parties, Tea Time, and special events.
- Maintain and store assigned inventory stock, following Safety and Sanitation Rules.
- Set up assigned areas in accordance with supervisor directions, Operations Manuals, and SOPs.
- Minimize equipment loss/damage and maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Clean and polish glassware, flatware, and equipment, ensuring proper storage.
- Ensure mise-en-place is ready 15 minutes prior to service.
- Participate in embarkation duties, including luggage assistance and guest escorting.
- Join "The Daily Reunion" team meetings to align with operational needs.
- Provide exceptional guest comfort and sales-oriented service, maintaining an impeccable level of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Proactively prepare service based on guest flow, embarkation & disembarkation, and shipboard activities.
- Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
- Maintain professional grooming standards as per Vikings Image and Uniform Policies.
- Secure company property, especially during rough weather conditions.
- Work with flexibility, positivity, and professionalism under pressure.
- Gain knowledge of ports of call, shore excursions, and onboard activities.
- Support achieving Restaurant Department KPIs (quality and financial goals).
- Follow safety and security policies, participating in fire prevention and evacuation drills.
- Assist in other departments and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualification (Your Profile)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Assistant Waiter or similar position in a premium hospitality or restaurant environment.
- Strong F&B knowledge, including allergy awareness.
- Shipboard experience is an advantage.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Physically fit able to carry heavy items, stand, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods.
- Fluent in English excellent communication skills.
- Flexible, stress-resistant, team player, with a strong work ethic.
- Guest-focused, service-oriented, with a positive personality and professional appearance.
- Impeccable hygiene standards and knowledge of sanitary policies.
