Job Overview:
We are seeking a Messman to join a container vessel. The Messman will be responsible for assisting in the galley and mess areas, ensuring that meals are served properly, and maintaining cleanliness in the crew dining and accommodation areas in compliance with maritime hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Chief Cook in preparing and serving meals to the crew.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the galley, mess rooms, and crew accommodation areas.
Set tables, serve food, and ensure proper table arrangements.
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment after meal service.
Assist in stocking and organizing food supplies in the pantry and storage areas.
Follow proper waste disposal and sanitation procedures to maintain health and safety standards.
Assist in maintaining inventory of kitchen and mess hall supplies.
Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and company food safety regulations.
Report any maintenance or hygiene concerns to the Chief Cook or Chief Officer.
Participate in emergency drills and follow ship safety protocols.
Requirements:
Valid STCW certification and relevant maritime training.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Messman on container vessels (or onboard training for fresh candidates).
Basic knowledge of food handling, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and other maritime regulations.
Strong teamwork and ability to assist galley staff as required.
Good communication skills and ability to work in an international crew environment.
Fluent in English (basic proficiency for maritime communication).
Physically fit and able to meet maritime medical fitness standards.
