Location: Onboard / Global Operations

Job Purpose:

The Wiper is an entry-level engine department rating whose primary role is to assist with cleaning, basic maintenance, and support tasks in the engine room. The position provides practical experience toward becoming an Oiler or qualified engine rating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean engine room machinery, floors, bilges, and bulkheads to ensure a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Assist Oilers and Engineers during maintenance and repair operations.
  • Help lubricate machinery under supervision.
  • Perform routine engine room checks as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the workshop and store areas.
  • Prepare tools, materials, and parts for maintenance work.
  • Participate in drills and understand emergency duties as per the vessels muster list.
  • Follow all safety and environmental regulations onboard.

Requirements:

  • STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate
  • Seafarers Medical Certificate
  • Seamans Book
  • Good physical condition and stamina for manual labor
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from senior crew members

Preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of engine room operations
  • Maritime vocational school or technical training background
  • Desire to progress toward becoming an Oiler or obtaining a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) as Engine Rating
