Job Description Hotel Purser
Purpose of Position:
- Supports the Financial Officer in managing guest and crew administration, revenue, and cost controls.
- Ensures the accuracy of financial transactions, reporting, and shipboard accounting in compliance with Vikings STAR Service Standards.
- Maintains a guest-oriented service culture, contributing to guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Balance departmental postings in MXP and POS, reporting any discrepancies.
- Perform cruise closing procedures, including Spa/Shops settlements and auditing cash floats.
- Manage the accuracy of the cash book and ships safe, ensuring sufficient funds.
- Handle cruise-related tax duties, supporting Department Heads as required.
- Assist in crew immigration procedures and guest passport verification.
- Maintain accurate guest accounts and onboard transactions in MXP.
- Oversee guest credit card payments, shipboard credits, and financial reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with public health and customs regulations at various ports of call.
- Conduct random cash float audits for Explorers Team and Crew Purser.
- Supervise the Hotel Administrator, ensuring timely completion of administrative tasks.
- Manage turnaround memos and meetings for department heads.
- Assist at embarkation check-in and support the Explorers Desk as needed.
- Lead and support multi-cultural teams, ensuring crew satisfaction, training, and productivity.
- Conduct daily operational meetings ("The Daily Reunion") to align with financial and service goals.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols.
- Maintain professional grooming standards per Vikings Image and Uniform Policies.
- Secure company property, particularly during rough weather conditions.
- Follow safety and security policies, participating in fire prevention and evacuation drills.
Qualification (Your Profile)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a shipboard financial position.
- Strong financial background, including budgeting and financial analysis.
- Previous experience in guest and crew administration is preferred.
- Fluent in English strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to speak additional languages is an advantage.
- Flexible, stress-resistant, team player, with a strong work ethic.
- Advanced administrative skills, including proficiency in PC-based databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Guest-focused, service-oriented, with a professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards.
- Ability to confidentially handle financial communications via email, phone, and reports.
