Job Overview:
We are seeking a Deck Cadet to join a container vessel for hands-on training and experience in deck operations, navigation, and ship maintenance. The Deck Cadet will work under the supervision of senior officers to gain practical knowledge and skills necessary for a future career as a Deck Officer, while ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in navigational watchkeeping under the guidance of Deck Officers.
Participate in mooring and unmooring operations during port arrivals and departures.
Support cargo handling operations, including lashing, securing, and deck maintenance.
Assist in maintenance, cleaning, painting, and general upkeep of the ships deck and superstructure.
Learn and assist in the use of nautical charts, ECDIS, and bridge equipment.
Observe and assist in ship stability, ballast operations, and cargo planning.
Participate in safety drills, firefighting, and emergency response training.
Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and company safety policies.
Maintain records and assist in ship documentation as required by the Chief Officer.
Follow instructions from the Chief Officer, Second Officer, and other senior deck officers.
Requirements:
Valid STCW certification and relevant maritime training.
Enrolled in or graduated from a maritime academy or deck officer cadet program.
Basic understanding of deck operations, navigation, and ship stability.
Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and other maritime regulations.
Strong willingness to learn and develop practical skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Fluent in English (basic proficiency for maritime communication).
Physically fit and able to meet maritime medical fitness standards.
