Location: Onboard / International Operations

Job Purpose:

The Bosun is the senior-most rating in the deck department and is responsible for supervising the deck crew (Able Seamen, Ordinary Seamen) in carrying out maintenance, cargo operations, and safety duties. The Bosun serves as a link between officers and ratings and ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and assign daily tasks to deck ratings for deck maintenance, painting, chipping, greasing, and cleaning operations.
• Oversee mooring/unmooring, anchoring, and cargo operations under officer supervision.
• Ensure that deck equipment such as winches, cranes, lifeboats, and gangways are operational and maintained.
• Assist with rigging, lashing, and securing cargo when required.
• Support officers during safety drills, inspections, and emergency response actions.
• Train and guide junior crew members (OS or new ABs) in seamanship and safety practices.
• Maintain tools, ropes, and maintenance materials in proper condition and storage.
• Monitor compliance with safety and environmental regulations during deck work.

Requirements:

• Valid STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate
• Certificate of Proficiency as Able-Bodied Seaman (AB)
• Several years of experience as AB or similar position on commercial vessels
• Good leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of shipboard safety procedures, cargo handling, and seamanship

Preferred:

• Familiar with safe working practices aloft and overboard
• Experience on similar vessel types (e.g. container, bulk, tanker)
• Ability to communicate in English for operational and safety matters
