Job Purpose:
The Engine Cadet is a trainee officer undergoing onboard training as part of their marine engineering education. The position is designed to provide practical experience in engine room operations, machinery maintenance, and maritime safety under supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist engineering officers with day-to-day operations and maintenance of the ships machinery and systems.
- Observe and participate in watchkeeping under supervision.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, lubricating equipment, and assisting with repairs.
- Learn to monitor machinery parameters and log readings.
- Participate in safety drills and familiarize with shipboard emergency procedures.
- Complete training tasks and documentation in line with the Training Record Book (TRB).
- Support bunkering operations, fuel and oil transfers, and system inspections when allowed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in engine room spaces.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited maritime academy or marine engineering program.
- Valid STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate (BST).
- Possess a Seamans Book and valid medical certificate (e.g., ENG1 or equivalent).
- Good attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions.
- Basic understanding of marine engines and safety procedures.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with engineering tools and basic technical knowledge.
- Prior workshop or simulator experience at a training center.
- Able to communicate in English in a maritime work environment.
