Job Description Kitchen Steward
Purpose of Position:
- Supervises and maintains cleanliness and functionality of all galley outlets, pot and dishwashing areas, and adjacent food preparation zones.
- Ensures proper maintenance of galley equipment and follows up on any required repairs.
- Maintains a guest-oriented service culture, contributing to guest satisfaction and repeat business.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and oversee a cleaning routine for all food production outlets in line with Vikings standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all galley storage areas, including chemical storage and lockers.
- Distribute cleaning materials and chemicals to galley outlets daily, ensuring proper storage and monitoring consumption.
- Ensure all cleaning and washing equipment is functional, reporting any damages or malfunctions to the Executive Chef.
- Assist the Chef de Cuisine in creating and monitoring maintenance and repair orders for kitchen equipment.
- Enforce proper garbage segregation according to Vikings Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure all galley outlets comply with Public Health Policies and Procedures at all times.
- Support F&B events such as Kitchen Table, Cooking Demonstrations, and Galley Tours by ensuring venues are ready on time.
- Assist the Provisions Team during ship loadings.
- Train Galley Staff in proper cleaning and maintenance of galley equipment following company policies.
- Keep the Executive Chef updated on night cleaning duties and any operational issues.
- Supervise Galley Utilities and maintain records of their working hours and payroll entries.
- Participate in The Daily Reunion to provide feedback and align operations with Vikings STAR Service Standards.
- Assign and enforce specific job responsibilities among key personnel under the Kitchen Stewards supervision.
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and ensure MLC (Maritime Labor Convention) compliance.
- Always wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use proper lifting techniques.
- Maintain professional grooming standards as per Vikings Image and Uniform Policies.
- Secure company property, particularly during rough weather conditions.
- Assist the Executive Chef with any additional tasks related to galley operations.
Qualification (Your Profile)
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Kitchen Steward, Chief Steward, or similar position in a premium hospitality environment.
- Fluent in English excellent communication skills for interpreting documents and coordinating with senior management.
- Leadership experience in managing multi-cultural teams.
- Flexible, stress-resistant, committed team player, with a strong work ethic.
- Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in PC-based databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Guest-focused, service-oriented, with a professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge of international Public Health standards and compliance.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (30 kg) daily and work a minimum of 1011 hours per day, 7 days a week.
- Previous cruise industry experience is required.
