Job Description:

The Second Officer plays a key operational and safety role on board Royal Caribbeans cruise vessels. Reporting to the Chief Officer, the Second Officer is responsible for bridge watchkeeping, navigation, voyage planning, and assisting with the ships safety and environmental management systems. This position requires exceptional seamanship, leadership, and communication skills to ensure safe and efficient vessel operation in line with international maritime standards and the companys safety management system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stand navigational watches and ensure safe navigation according to COLREGs and company procedures.
  • Prepare and update voyage plans, charts, and navigational publications.
  • Monitor and maintain navigational and bridge equipment, including ECDIS, radar, gyro, and autopilot systems.
  • Assist the Chief Officer with cargo, ballast, and stability management (where applicable).
  • Maintain the vessels safety and environmental protection standards in accordance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISM Code.
  • Conduct safety drills and participate in emergency preparedness training.
  • Supervise deck ratings during maintenance and safety operations.
  • Assist with bridge team management and mentoring junior officers.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class II Deck or equivalent.
  • Valid STCW certificates (Advanced Firefighting, GMDSS, BRM/BTM, etc.).
  • Minimum 1218 months of sea service as Third Officer or equivalent.
  • Strong navigation and ECDIS experience (preferably on passenger/cruise vessels).
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, safety-conscious attitude with teamwork orientation.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience on large cruise vessels or passenger ships.
  • Familiarity with bridge resource management and passenger ship operations.
