Position Summary:
As our Designer, you will be responsible for handling the full design process of customer orders, from concept to first article inspection. Using DesignEdge and other design tools, you will create precise and manufacturable parts while considering critical factors such as metal properties, tolerances, and finishing requirements. This role is highly collaborative and will require strong communication with the production team and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and modify parts using DesignEdge or other compatible CAD tools.
- Reverse engineer customer-supplied components and develop accurate design files.
- Apply knowledge of material behavior (steel, aluminum, stainless) including bend allowances, heat, hardness, and powder coat thickness.
- Utilize the internal parts catalog for design references and adapt as needed for manufacturability.
- Perform First Article Inspections to ensure designs meet customer requirements and shop capabilities.
- Collaborate with the production team to conduct test runs and confirm conformance.
- Communicate with customers to clarify design requirements and provide technical input.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all designs, changes, and inspection results.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and contribute to design best practices.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with DesignEdge preferred; experience with other CAD/design software is acceptable.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes including cutting, bending, and finishing.
- Familiarity with press brake operation and/or welding is a plus.
- Solid grasp of material characteristics, tolerances, and fabrication best practices.
- Strong computer skills and attention to detail in technical documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and team members.
- Self-motivated with a desire to grow professionally and contribute to a dynamic team.
