Overview of the Position

Pinewood seeks a dynamic Music teacher who is passionate about fostering creativity and musical appreciation among students. We seek a teacher who exhibits excellence in the classroom, encourages students musical development, and is interested in working collaboratively with colleagues. The ideal candidate will implement innovative, student - centered approaches to teaching and learning in music education. S/he will work cooperatively with students, parents, and colleagues to cultivate an inclusive, individualized, and vibrant learning environment where student success - academically, emotionally, and socially - is the primary objective.



Scope of the Position

The Middle & High School English teacher reports directly to the Principal and Art Department Chair.

Courses will be at the Middle School levels. The position is part-time.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and support the mission, vision, and philosophy of Pinewood.
  • Implement AERO standards and the AP and MYP curricula in course design and delivery
  • Adjust teaching strategies to implement personalized adaptive learning
  • Prepare and teach daily music lessons and complete the yearly curriculum as outlined.
  • Collaborate with the Arts Department Chair to plan, implement, and refine the music program.
  • Carry out advisory duties as assigned by the Principal.
  • Supervise students in the classroom and during recess/lunch/school activities to ensure safety
  • Maintain classroom and rehearsal discipline while promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in the faculty appraisal system as designated by the Head of School and Principal.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and guide instruction in both practical and theoretical aspects of music.
  • Provide appropriate support and accommodations to students with special educational needs.
  • Collect and record student performance data according to the schools Data Collection Policy
  • Monitor and report student progress through timely grading and thoughtful feedback.
  • Communicate proactively with students and parents regarding student progress and feedback
  • Be available during school hours for student and/or parent meetings as needed.
  • Attend weekly and monthly faculty and department meetings.
  • Chaperone concerts, musical performances, and other school events on a rotational basis.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities throughout the year
  • Participate in evening sessions for parent/teacher conferences and other parent-oriented events

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Music (Masters preferred)
  • Valid teaching certification / license relevant to the position
  • Native speaker of English
  • Interest, initiative, and drive to thrive in a diverse, personalized school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
